I'm trying to upgrade my firmware on my Wave S8500 from Bada 1.0  [S8500DUJF1/S8500VFGJF2 (VD2)] to Bada 1.2 [S8500BUKD1/S8500VFGKF1 (VD2)]. When I do the update, it all goes smooth until the end. I reach 100%, it stalls and I notice a cellphone icon on the phone with an arrow pointing down to it, and then after 5-10 minutes the Kies tells me that the PC cannot recognize the phone.

Any suggestions?

This is exactly what I experienced while upgrading from 1.2 to 2.0. I have tried reinstalling Kies and using the troubleshoot connection option but I get the same result. Sad

I really want to update to 2.0.. Please help. Sad

Phoebe, could you give us some info on the O/S your running.
Also, what version of KIES too.

I don't want to ask you if you want to flash manually,
since there seems to be a communications problem somewhere.

Your phone wants the Bada 2 upgrade (which is good), but getting it to your phone is just not happening.

Did you do the factory reset?

I used two computers for the update, one is with WinXP and the other one was Win7 Ultimate. I have the latest version of Kies which is 2.3.2.12054_20 for both PCs.

I have read another thread (http://www.samsungwaveforum.com/samsung-wave-troubleshooting/kies-update-to-2-0-failed-emergency-recovery-failed-help-!/) about the similar issue of her phone having connection problems and this is what she did:

"...Logic said it had to be communication between laptop & phone, so after several attempts I did get past the 'phone-exclamationmark-laptop' icons to the blue-square/red writing screen. Sorted, and am now happily running 2.0. Bada-boom !
Thanks to help elsewhere on here, I was also able to fix the Wi-Fi issues.
What a great site - wish I'd found it before ..."

In my case, I also did several attempts (5 actually), but Kies just can't recognize my phone after it has downloaded the 2.0 FW. Flashing manually is also not an option for me because I'm not good at doing such thing that I might brick my phone. Sad

I also remember doing a factory reset (I did the master reset under settings), as what you've told me before.

I really don't know what to do now. LOL.

Sorry, i have exhausted my options on how to get this working, since i have not encounted this before.
As i mentioned, manual flashing is risky, and i wouldn't want a 'bricked' phone either.
The last thing i can think of is the Samsung Registry cleaner, but that's a long shot.
Anyone on the forum?

Maybe it's just the connection problem between the phone and the PC. I'll google the Samsung Registry Cleaner anyway. Smiley

Thanks for the time and effort, BBB!

Thanks for the screenshot. I did a quick search on Google about this.

So, do you have any other USB devices plugged into your computer besides the phone?

Wow. Thank you for the effort, BBB. Smiley

My internet connection is via a USB modem. Other than that, my mouse is plugged into my laptop too while I do the update.

I just read the article. I suppose the drivers are installed correctly because I just updated Kies and did the troubleshoot connection error option whenever the PC cannot recognize the phone.

So... you think it's the broadband modem that's hindering the update process?

I'm afraid it's a trial and error troubleshooting exercise now.
The person (from the web link) had trouble with their usb modem causing trouble with the phone connection.
Is there a way you can use another type of internet connection? so you can remove the usb modem.

The Wave also uses a USB modem to talk to your computer.
You can only try. This is all new to me.

Yeah, I would like to try removing the usb modem, maybe it would work for me too.
But, I don't have another type of internet connection here. You think after Kies has finished downloading the files, I could just disconnect or remove the internet usb modem from the computer? Installing the FW doesn't require an internet connection, right? Smiley

I can do a 'how to guide' if you are interested. Haven't flashed for a couple of weeks, so it's overdue  Cheesy
It will have to be in another thread.
Just let me know which country code you need, and i'll stick up the required links to f/w and software needed.
